ISLAMABAD/KABUL: The shadows of a massive conflict are looming over South Asia. In a midnight operation that has sent shockwaves across the globe, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) breached Afghan airspace to carry out multiple air strikes. What started as a “counter-terrorism operation” has now turned into a terrifying standoff between two heavily armed neighbors.
1. The Midnight Blitz
Under the cover of darkness, Pakistani fighter jets targeted the Khost and Paktika provinces of Afghanistan. Pakistan’s Foreign Office claimed these were “Intelligence-Based Operations” (IBOs) aimed at high-value targets of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). They allege that TTP commanders are using Afghan soil to launch deadly suicide attacks inside Pakistan.
2. The Taliban’s Fury
The Afghan Taliban has reacted with “Adbhut” (extraordinary) aggression. Denouncing the strikes as a direct violation of their sovereignty, Taliban spokesmen claimed the bombs hit civilian homes, killing innocent women and children. In a “Bhyanak” (terrifying) warning, the Taliban stated, “Pakistan should not test the patience of the Afghan people. We have defeated superpowers, and we know how to defend our land.”
3. Artillery Duels at the Border
Immediately after the air strikes, the Durand Line (the disputed border) turned into a battlefield. Heavy exchange of fire, including mortars and rockets, has been reported from both sides. Villages on the border are being evacuated as civilians flee the “Death Zone.”
4. Why the Escalation?
- The TTP Factor: Pakistan is frustrated with the Taliban for providing “safe havens” to TTP militants.
- Border Dispute: The Taliban has never officially recognized the Durand Line, leading to constant friction over border fencing.
